i'm so pleased to see Patel doing well. I think he's a good enough batsman to bat a place (or perhaps even two) higher, especially in the sub-continent, and the option of a second spinner is massive. I think he's just about fit enough, too. In fact, I don't think it's 100% his waistline so much as his attitude that the England management were unhappy with. If he's on-board and showing willing, the fact that he's not leanest in the side is made up for by his talent. You can carry a guy who's a little tubby, perhaps, but you can't carry a guy with a bad attitude to training and so on.
