Despite the dastardly Shivnarine Chanderpaul continuing to plunder more performance enhancing runs, yesterday was a good day for Lancashire in their pursuit of their first outright County Championship title for 77 years.
Bottom of the table Hampshire proved more resilient than expected at the Rose Bowl and with the weather also frustrating Warwickshire, the win they need to pip Lancashire to the title is not a given. With Jimmy Adams and Michael Carberry both having made big scores recently, you never know.
Even better for Lancashire was their fightback at Taunton, which saw the home side bowled out for what looks like a below par 380. With Lancashire moving assurededly to 247 for three by the close, they are arguably in a better position than the rivals to get the win they desperately require.
So with two days to go, the destination of the title is still unknown and our County Championship casserole is back on track to come to boil at exactly the right time. Indeed, if it wasn't for the fact that we don't like lamb then it could yet turn out to be a Lancashire hotpot.
