For our third county preview, we look at the Red Rose county – can they finally break the title famine that now stretches right back to 1934? We doubt it.
Strengths
Sadly, these are few and far between. Glen Chapple will need to be like Atlas as the captain will likely need to carry most of the side on his shoulders for the season. Any matches they can get out of James Anderson all the better. Other than that, Lancashire fans will be hoping that the likes of Stephen Moore and Paul Horton justify their talent and have much improved seasons after disappointing in 2010.
Weaknesses
The batting lacks depth and any real quality, the bowling is heavily reliant on Chapple and Tom Smith, although Gary Keedy and Simon Kerrigan provide good spin options. Sajid Mahmood is a key player – say no more.
Main man
The evergreen Glen Chapple is a good man to have in the trenches and will be trying his damnedest to inspire his troops to retain their Division 1 place.
Look out for…
Money is obviously scarce at Old Trafford hence their low-key choice of overseas player in Farveez Maharoof – can he deliver the goods?
Prediction
7th – forget the title, this will be a season of struggle.
Where next?
