We’ll admit it. We doubted you. We thought you would be cannon fodder to the Evil Empire and the Dark Lord Ponting on good Australian wickets.
We thought you were a one trick pony. A homer. A bowler that could only flourish in England’s green, pleasant and swing friendly lands.
We know that you did reasonably well in South Africa last winter in Australian-like conditions, but we just didn’t fancy you down under.
When you were taking all those wickets against Pakistan, swinging the ball around corners and getting some reverse too, we hoped that you would prove us wrong.
But the memory of 2006/07 when you took 5/413 in the series and was Ponting’s bitch at Adelaide resonated too prominently.
But who’s the Daddy now? And at Adelaide too.
You were the mutt’s nuts at Brisbane but didn’t get the rewards you deserved and today you were immense – Ponting is your bitch now.
How could we ever have doubted you? You were right all along – you are at least twice the bowler you were four years ago.
An unreserved apology is the least we can do.
