Now we had a spot of fun at Craig Kieswetter's expense when he failed in the second ODI with Bangladesh on Wednesday, but we have been demanding for his immediate elevation to the ODI and T20I side before and since he qualified to play for England. So we were delighted that he overcame his nerves to hit a brilliant hundred in the third ODI today.
That the conditions were not what Kieswetter would have been used to either at Taunton or in South Africa, and that he showed excellent footwork to the spinners marks Kieswetter down as just what England have needed at the top of the order since the retirement of the great Marcus Trescothick. Indeed, Kieswetter's century was only the fourth by an England opener since Tresco last played for England; Strauss, Cook and Ed Joyce scored the other ones.
Like Kieswetter, it can only be a matter of time before Eoin Morgan is given a chance in the test side. Yet again today he showed his versatility as he played a very different innings to the wonderful one he played on Wednesday. Well done also to Luke Wright whom we had a pop at the other day. One day of sun does not make a summer but this is just the sort of innings that Wright should be aiming for in the limited overs game. Maybe an English Shane Watson without the permanent cry baby face could be in the offing yet?
