The Dark Lord of the Pakistan Cricket Board brings a whole new meaning to the word inept. Along with Shoaib 'Machiavelli' Malik, Butt should take the lions share of the blame for the farce that has been Pakistan cricket since he took over as Chairman of the PCB in 2008.
Butt's continual interference, provocative public statements and general mismanagement has exacerbated the team's problems and undermined coaches, managers and players alike. Incredibly, Butt's reign as Chairman has seen five captains in less than two years as Malik, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and now Salman Butt have been through the revolving door.
But it is Butt's alienation of Pakistan's two best batsmen - Yousuf and Younis, which really takes the biscuit. Pakistan don't have a surplus of world class batsmen in the current era, so to impose an indefinite ban on the pair after the disastrous tour of Australia; a decision that had Butt's dirty mitts all over it, was both an over-reaction and a case of shooting yourself in the foot to put it mildly.
The cure for Pakistan cricket should start with the removal of this bungling fool.
